Sunday 2 September 2012 - Team Gold and Individual Silver for Sophie!
What an amazing first 4 days we have seen at the Para Equestrian competition at Greenwich Park! So far Team GB has won 3 Gold medals and 3 Silver medals - what an outstanding performance from all of our athletes and their horses!
Sophe and Noki won their Grade IV Team test on Friday (photo above) and the Silver medal in the Individual test today (Sunday). These results were a vital part of Team GB's overall score, and the Team Gold medal was won with a record score. This means that Team GB remains unbeaten in Equestrian since it was admitted to the Paralympics in 1996, and the medal ceremony takes place on Tuesday.
As well as Team Gold and Sophie's Silver, Natasha and Sophie C both won Individual Gold, and Lee and Deb both won Individual Silver - A-MAZ-ING!
Tomorrow and Tuesday see the Freestyle to Music tests and Sophie is aiming to go one better than the fantastic Silver medal she already has - good luck Sophie and Noki!
The London Paralympics 2012 will be bathed in a blaze of golden glory provided by the Team GB athletes who achieved an unprecedented 65 medals at The Olympic Games, including 29 Gold, 3 of which came from our amazing Equestrians at Greenwich Park - Dressage Team Gold, Individual Dressage Gold and Jumping Team Gold. Not forgetting a fantastic Eventing Team Silver and Individual Dressage Bronze, phew!
No pressure then for our intrepid Paradressage Team!
But they need have no fear as they are all outstanding athletes who have been working their socks off with the best preparation possible under the auspices of Equestrian Team GBR, UK Lottery Funding and the World Class Programme. The riders will be supported by the Great British Public, who have embraced equestrian sport with enormous enthusiasm and will be eager for more in the stunning setting of Greenwich Park.
